Why install a home EV charger?
A home charger is the safest, most convenient way to keep your EV powered up. Charge overnight on a night-rate tariff, and you'll pay a fraction of what public charging or petrol costs.
- A full charge at home can cost as little as €3 to €5 on a night-rate tariff.
- Compared to petrol or diesel, you could save over €1,000 a year.
- The SEAI home charger grant covers up to €300 of your installation cost.
Many EV owners in Ireland are already cutting their running costs by charging at home overnight.
Whether you drive a full EV or a plug-in hybrid, a home charger puts you in control of your charging and your costs.

Frequently asked questions
How does EVchargers.ie work?
Fill in our short form and we'll match you with up to three local installers. They'll then contact you about personalised quotes and you choose the one that works for you, or decline them all.
Do I need off-street parking to install a home EV charger?
In most cases, yes. You'll need a driveway, garage, or other private parking space where a cable can run safely from your consumer unit to the charger. This is also a requirement for the SEAI home charger grant.
If you only have on-street parking, your installer can advise on what's possible for your property.
How much does a home EV charger cost?
A standard 7kW home charger typically costs €800 to €1,500 fully installed in Ireland, before the SEAI grant. After the €300 grant, most homeowners pay somewhere between €500 and €1,200.
The exact price depends on your property's electrics, the length of the cable run, and the charger model you choose. Getting quotes from multiple installers is the best way to find a fair price for your home.
Do I need to own an EV to apply for the grant?
No. You can apply for and receive the SEAI home charger grant before you've bought an EV. If you're planning to make the switch in the next year or two, it can make sense to get your charger installed now while the grant is available.
How long does a home EV charger last?
Most home chargers are built to last 8 to 15 years with normal use, and typically come with a manufacturer's warranty of around 3 years. Outdoor units exposed to harsh weather tend to sit at the lower end of that range, so location and installation quality both matter.
Where should a home charger be installed?
Usually on an exterior wall near your driveway or parking space, close to your consumer unit to keep the cable run short. Your installer will assess your property and recommend the best spot during a site visit.
